The Summer Garden

The Summer Garden is one of the most popular places for visitors to the northern capital.
The oldest park in the city, founded at the beginning of the 18th century near Petrine’s Summer Palace in the regular style with a well-defined layout.
The creator of the garden was Emperor Peter the Great himself, and the chief designer was Ivan Ugryumov.
Today, the collection of the garden has 92 exhibits and 8 fountains.
The park is included in the European Garden Heritage Association.

A bridge across the Fontanka on Nevsky avenue, connecting two islands. It has four sculptures of horse tamers on it. Today Anichkov bridge is nearly 55 meters long and 37.9 meters wide and consists of three spans. It is one of the most beautiful and recognizable bridges in the Northern Capital.

St. Nicholas Cathedral

The St. Nicholas Cathedral, also known as the Church of the Epiphany, is located on the bank of the Kryukov Canal, and is a beautiful monument of Baroque architecture. The church consists of two churches, one lower and one upper. The lower church is consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra, the patron saint of all travelers, including those by sea. The upper church was consecrated in the name of the Epiphany. Therefore, the full name of the temple is The Cathedral of the Epiphany of St. Nicholas. Its construction was completed in 1762.

Mariinsky Theatre (Old and New Stage)

The St Isaac’s Cathedral

It is the largest orthodox temple in St. Petersburg, a masterpiece of world architecture and one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

It is located on St. Isaac’s Square. Since 1928 it has the status of a museum. It is an object of cultural heritage of Russia.

The Winter Canal.

This is the name of the canal who connect the Moyka River and the Neva River. It was created near the Winter Palace in 1719. It was dug so close to Peter I’s winter residence that he could got into the boat from doorstep.
The construction of the canal is very exceptional: a large arch is throwing across the Winter Canal, it connecte two buildings: the Hermitage Theatre and the Old Hermitage. And in 1782-1784 the embankments of the Winter Canal were closed in the traditional city granite and decorated with austere grating.

The Winter Palace. The Hermitage

Great and handsome, the Winter Palace was built in 1754-1762, by order of Empress Elizabeth. The architect was Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli.
It is the largest state museum in St. Petersburg, which is located in the center of the city, on Palace Square. The beauty and grandeur of the Hermitage leaves no one indifferent. The museum have got a collection of over three million works of art and world culture monuments.

The Bronze Horseman

This is the most famous monument of Peter I, which is the visit card of Saint Petersburg. It is located on the Senate Square.
The emperor sits confidently on a rampant horse covered with a bear fur. The horse means a violent people, who have submitted to the Peter I. A huge snake lies under the horse’s hooves, symbolizing the opponents of reform, while the figure of Peter symbolizing the strength and steadfastness of himself.
By order of Empress Catherine II, the message was written on the stone in two languages: Russian and Latin: «To Peter I Catherine II of the summer of 1782.

The Spit of Vasilevskiy Island in Saint Petersburg is one of the most beautiful ensembles of the Northern capital. From here begins two embankments diverge – Universitetskaya embankment and Makarova embankment. This is the one of favorite places St. Petersburg’s residents and guests.
The Rostral Columns (each 32 meters high) and the building of the Stock Exchange are center of the architectural composition.
This is a little cape who located in the south-eastern part of Vasilevskiy Island, surrounded by the Big Neva River and the Small Neva River.

The Palace Bridge is located amongst architectural masterpieces, in the heart of St. Petersburg and is rightly the landmark of the city on the Neva! It can rightly be called the most romantic in all of St. Petersburg. Every year millions of tourists from all over the world come to see the enchanting show of opening bridges. Even sophisticated residents of the northern capital often come to see the spectacle once again!
The building is on Russia’s List of Cultural Heritage Sites.

This is one of the oldest monument in St. Petersburg. May 27, 1703 — both a day of its founding and the founding day of the whole city. The imperator together with the French engineer, Lambert de Guerin, have designed the plan of the citadel.

Soon they start constructing the cathedral. Later it became the tomb for several Russian imperators. This building was designed by Domenico Andrea Trezzini. In the early 30s of the 18th century, the construction was finished.

There is a rising flag above the cathedral early every morning. This tradition was stopped only in the beginning of 20th century. Later in 90s it was renewed, but it was decided not to let down the flag anymore. Since that time you can always see it on the post above the cathedral.

Cruiser Aurora

The Aurora is a Russian armored deck cruiser of the first rank. Today, one of the most famous historical monuments of St. Petersburg. The cruiser received her baptism of fire in 1905, during the Battle of Tsushima.
It became world famous due to the fact that it signalled the beginning of the October revolution of 1917 with a blank shot. During the Great Patriotic War the ship took part in the defence of Leningrad. After the war it continued to serve as a training ship and museum, mooring on the Neva River in St Petersburg. It is located near the Petrogradskaya embankment.
During this time the Aurora became a symbol ship of the Russian Navy and is now an object of cultural heritage of Russia.

Church of the Savior on the Blood

The Savior on the Blood, or the Church of the Resurrection of Christ on Blood, is one of the most significant church buildings in Russia of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is now a popular tourist attraction in St. Petersburg.
Multicolored, golden, and shining with mosaics and enamel, its silhouette rises above the water surface of the Griboyedov Canal.
Despite its festive appearance, the cathedral was built on the site of one of the most tragic events in Russian history, the fatal wounding of Alexander II, hence its name, «The Savior on Blood.»
It is a cultural heritage site of Russia.
